COLUMBIA, Tenn. -- Columbia police said the location where a victim's truck was found Sunday night could be an important clue to solving his death.
The body of Gary Houston Reese, 52, was discovered on the banks of the Duck River, near the Riverside Drive boat ramp, at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.Police said he had been fishing nearby earlier in the day. Preliminary results from the state medical examiner's office indicated that Reese had trauma to his body. The man's family members fear his 2009 silver GMC Sierra truck might have made him a target.Police said while they are not sure about that theory, they believe that the location where the truck was dumped -- Johnson Hollow Road and Sycamore Road in Williamson County, the site of Interstate 840 road construction -- might have a connection to the suspect.Police Lt. Michelle Jones said maybe the attacker worked in the area, had a family member who works in the area or lives nearby.Jones said it seems as though the suspect would have had to be familiar with the area and probably needed a ride to escape.Jones is asking anyone who saw anything Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening to call police.Reese was a father of four children and two stepchildren and had 12 grandchildren. Reese's children said he recently purchased his truck, the first new vehicle he had ever purchased himself.Visitation for Reese is Tuesday at Oakes and Nichols funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with services beginning at 2 p.m.
