NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A trip to Sears has a father and son accusing security of going too far to prevent shoplifting.
According to Goodlettsville police, Danny Dixon, Sr. and Danny Dixon, Jr. shopped at the Rivergate Mall Sears on Saturday. After purchasing several items, they left the store. But because a cashier didn't mark their boxes properly as paid, a security guard confronted the pair in the parking lot, believing they were shoplifters."There was no reason why he did what he did," said Danny Dixon, Sr. "He shouldn't have put a hand on us."Store surveillance video captured the ensuing scuffle on tape. Police couldn't comment on the specifics, but, according to the Dixons, several security guards injured them and refused to let them show a receipt for their purchases."Kicked me in the side," said Danny Dixon, Sr. "Kicked me in the head.""All I could hear him saying was, 'I have my receipt. I have my receipt'," said Andrea Brooks, who witnessed the confrontation. "And then one of the cashiers, she let him know he did have a receipt, but they still did not ask for the receipt."The mall didn't return repeated phone calls Sunday. Sears wouldn't comment, either. A spokeswoman told Channel 4 News Sears is sifting through conflicting versions of the story.By phone, a Sears associate told Channel 4 she told guards several times the Dixons did pay. But she also said guards told her Dixon refused to show his receipt.Because of the scuffle, three guards are pressing simple assault charges against the father and son, even though police are not.The Dixons told Channel 4 they are considering a lawsuit.
