Police on Friday charged a second person they believe is responsible for a fire last month that killed a mother and her two sons.

Matthew James Wood, 18, was arrested on three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Desere, Jerrod and Anthony Thornton. They were stabbed and then their house was set on fire Oct. 23.

Wood had been hospitalized at Vanderbilt Medical Center for burns but is now being held at the Giles County Jail.

The first suspect, William Angel, 18, was arrested the day of the fire.

Police believe Angel targeted Jerrod because of a dispute over a girl.
