Wine can't be purchased in grocery stores in Tennessee, but soon beer can be bought at some Walgreens stores.

Thursday, the beer board granted eight Walgreens stores permits to sell beer. Locations that are near houses or churches will not serve beer.

Permit requests for several other stores were deferred so that lawyers could get all the required paperwork together.

Walgreens has 32 stores in Nashville.

Walgreens in other states already serve beer, and some sell liquor or wine.
