The crash occurred Oct. 31 near the corner of Brick Church Pike and Ewing Lane, killing Darius Buchanan.

According to Metro police, Percy Thompson, the man accused of causing the crash, tried to run away from the scene after the wreck occurred. Officers arrested him after a brief chase.

Jesse Loy, a fatal crash investigator with Metro police, testified that a blood test revealed Thompson's blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit.

Three witnesses took the stand and testified that they saw Thompson driving erratically prior to the crash.

Thompson has a lengthy criminal background and is accused of violating his probation. He is in jail on a $115,000 bond.

He is charged with vehicular homicide, evading arrest, failing to render aid and violating the state's implied consent law.

Thompson's next court date has not been set.
