NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A group of studio musicians and producers who have recorded hundreds of hit songs among them says the museum built in their honor is being done wrong.
The group said the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in downtown Nashville had been offered a place inside the new proposed downtown convention center, and claim that offer has now been withdrawn."This museum needs to be where the action is," said Charley McCoy, a veteran studio musician.Buddy Cannon, who wrote George Straight's "Give It Away" and Vern Gosdin's "Set 'Em Up, Joe," said musicians deserve what the city had offered."So now, for some reason, they've changed their mind and don't have room for them,” Cannon said. “It sounds a little unfair."Joe Cain, the man in charge of the project at MDHA, denies that a firm decision has been made about whether the Musicians Hall of Fame will be part of the convention center project.“That is still being discussed,” Cain said. "Those are some things that are still being negotiated."The Hall of Fame’s owner said he’s seen new drawings of the convention center and that the museum is no longer in the plans. The Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum isn't the only group that says MDHA went back on its offer. Tower Investments, which owns more than five acres of parking lot behind the Sommet Center, sued MDHA Wednesday.Alex Marks, the senior vice president of Tower Investments, said MDHA is refusing to give them the results of three appraisals done on its land, despite having promised to do so."They state that it was somehow privileged," Marks said.MDHA denies it promised to release the appraisals."MDHA does not agree with what the allegations are in their suit," said Joe Cain.
