Murfreesboro police said Thursday that a man's body found Wednesday in a burning Murfreesboro apartment trash bin was not a result of homicide.

Autopsy results rule out homicide as a cause of death, but police have not released the name of the victim.

The local fire department said the man's burned body was found at the Nottingham Apartments on Greenland Drive at about 6 a.m. The apartments are near the Middle Tennessee State University campus.

"I just started calling everyone I was really close to up hear that I know to make sure they answered their phones and were OK," said MTSU student Peter Smith.

Once the trash bin fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered the body.

Murfreesboro fire officials said the body is that of a white male who was wearing a blue shirt that had the words "Pointe of Raiders Campus" on it. There is an apartment complex with a similar name, and authorities are questioning people there.

Authorities said Wednesday there was no identification on the body but that there was a key with the body.

The Murfreesboro fire chief said it will take a few days before the autopsy results are back.

Police are urging the public to give them a call if they can help identify the body.

The burnt trash bin has been removed from the property, and a new one has been put in its place.

Reporters Regina Raccuglia and Jonathan Martin contributed to this story.
