Harpeth Hall's Second Headmistress Dies

Idanelle 'Sam' McMurray Created Middle School On Campus

Harpeth Hall School is remembering one of its earliest leaders.

Idanelle "Sam" McMurray died at her home in Cookeville over the weekend.

McMurray, who suffered a stroke, was 84.

She was the school's second headmistress. She led the school from 1963 until 1979 and is credited with creating a middle school on the campus.

Harpeth Hall is an all-girls private school in Green Hills.
