Lindsey Seymour, 27, was a teacher at Alvin C. York Institute in Jamestown, Tenn. She began her career at York, working in the office in 2005 before earning her teacher's license.

Seymour resigned her job at the school on Sept. 28 after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began investigating allegations made by the family of the teenage student. The encounters between her and the teen allegedly occurred between June and September of this year.

The teacher has been charged with eight counts of statutory rape by an authority figure. The student was 16 at the time of the alleged encounters and is now 17.

Assistant District Attorney John Galloway presented the case to a grand jury Thursday morning.

"We're not hiding; we're here," said Seymour's attorney, Melanie Bean. "We're here to answer to the charges and to defend."

Seymour is married and lives in Allardt, Tenn. She attended Middle Tennessee State University and received her masters in education from Tennessee Tech.

The State Department of Education doesn't have record of Seymour teaching in any Tennessee schools other than York.

The Alvin C. York Institute is the only comprehensive secondary school in Tennessee that is funded and operated by the state.

Seymour is scheduled to be in court Nov. 9.
