GALLATIN, Tenn. -- A jury was seated Monday in the trial for a teacher accused of having sex with some of her students. Opening statements began Monday afternoon.
Sandy Binkley was a math teacher at Portland High School. In January, a Sumner County grand jury indicted her on charges of having sexual encounters with three of her male students. The boys told police that some of the alleged encounters happened during school hours.Binkley's attorney said his client was raped and that the boys got together to come up with a story. The prosecution, however, will produce three alleged victims, including a pair of brothers who said they have stories and pictures about multiple encounters with Binkley. The prosecution said Binkley gave one boy a $100 bill for his birthday and a $500 Xbox for graduation.Last September, Binkley was suspended from the school without pay pending the outcome of the trial.
