A man in Mount Pleasant who has been accused of shooting a dog with a crossbow told officers he was just having a bad week, authorities said.

Bo, a 6-month-old pit bull, is OK now, but he had to have emergency surgery last week after someone shot him with a crossbow and punctured his lung.

The Columbia Daily Herald reported police arrested William McQuilling, 28, whose girlfriend lives next door to Fields. McQuilling told police he "poked" the dog because it wouldn't stay out of the trash.

Michael Fields, the dog's owner, admitted Bo had strayed onto the neighbor's property, but said it didn't deserve what happened.

McQuilling has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
