NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jury selection began Monday morning for the man accused of killing 9-year-old Girl Scout Marcia Trimble in 1975. Marcia disappeared while she was delivering cookies in the Green Hills area of Nashville. Her body was found in a neighbor's garage more than a month later.Jerome Barrett was arrested and charged with the child's death in early 2008. He was convicted earlier this year of murdering Vanderbilt University student Sarah Des Prez in 1975.The jury will be locally chosen residents from Davidson County, which was a request by Barrett. Attorneys are attempting to find people who have no opinion or have never heard about this high-profile case.On Monday, the court narrowed the pool of 125 possible juror candidates to 60.So far, the pool was shaping up to be young people who do not watch much news and others who recently moved to the county. Barrett's defense team said they did not want any juror to know anything about Barrett's past, since he has been convicted of multiple rapes and murder. The jury was expected to be chosen by Tuesday.Judge Steve Dozier ruled on Friday that the Des Prez murder case won't be heard during the Trimble testimony. The jury will also not be allowed to hear from the victim of a beating who lived in the same neighborhood as Marcia and identified Barrett as her attacker.Opening statements are expected to begin Wednesday after the jury is selected. Fifty-three possible witnesses may be called to testify during the trial.
