You can help out LaVergne police officers who've been hurt on the job and have a great time on the water.

A bass tournament to benefit four LaVergne officers on light duty or who are recovering at home is set for Saturday in Smyrna from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The boats will launch from Fate Sanders Marina.

The tournament, which is open to the public, raises money for food, gifts and other items for the injured officers.

Early registration has concluded. Late registration is July 11 from 4:30 to 5:30 a.m. There is a $5 late fee. To register, contact Sgt. Chip Davis at 416-4575, Andrea White at 335-7791 or stop by the LaVergne Police Department.

Entry fee is $50 per boat. The fee is $20 for the Big Large/Small mouth pot.
