The Holder yard in Manchester screams family and fun. An above-ground swimming pool is the shining centerpiece of an enormous deck where friends and family spend hours enjoying each other.

Cody Holder, 14, was doing just that with his cousin recently when something went wrong.

"By the time they got to the edge of the pool, they were diving out as far as they could," said Cody's uncle, Matt Holder.

Cody hit the bottom of the pool and broke his neck. Holder was the one who pulled his nephew from the water and began performing CPR. He said that Cody seemed lifeless at first.

"It took four or five minutes to get him breathing again," said Holder.

Cody was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, but he was transferred Tuesday to a spinal cord injury and rehabilitation center in Atlanta.

The Manchester community is pulling together to help the family through the tragedy.

Friends were cleaning the family's pool and organizing fundraisers Thursday to help pay for the family's needs. Cody's father, Mark, recently lost his job.

Cody's injury is serious, but his family is also serious about their faith, believing against all hope that Cody, an up-and-coming baseball star at Coffee County Central High School, will be running and jumping and throwing fast balls again.

"I believe God will is going to let him walk again; I really do," Holder said.

A fund has been set up at the Coffee County Bank to help in the boy's recovery.

In the first few days of his injury, the community raised more than $7,000 for Cody.
