Police said Mitchell Stone, and the children's stepmother, Rose, were at a party and left their children, 3-year-old Kayndace Fisher and 1-year-old Akeelia Fisher, home alone.

An early morning fire started at their home at the Ashbury Apartments, killing the children. Family members said the Stones tried to save the children but were unsuccessful.

Investigators believe a coffee warmer that was turned on next to a stove started the fire.

McMinnville dectective Nicole Mosely, who investigated the case and presented it to the grand jury on Tuesday, said the couple showed no emotion and no remorse at the time of the fire and again at the grand jury indictment.

The couple is being held at a McMinnville jail.

If the Stones are convicted of the first-degree murder charge, they could receive a 25-year prison term.
