NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A bill being considered in the Tennessee House and Senate has sparked controversy with a Native American tribe out of Oklahoma.Members of the Muscogee Creek Nation were in Nashville Tuesday to protest the passage of a bill that would recognize groups of Indian descendants as tribal governments in Tennessee. The problem they have with the bill is that a long recognition process to become federally accredited must be endured to become an Indian nation. The Muscogee tribe believes this bill would allow those who have never shown proof that they are descendants to reap all of the governmental benefits.Tribe members said passing this bill would be unconstitutional.
