COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Putnam County needs to expand its jail, but it looks as though it won't be done at the current jail.The County Commission is considering looking for an off-site location for the expansion.Early estimates showed that adding on to the current jail in Cookeville would cost at least $12 million and would be the most expensive option.County commissioners will consider the options at a meeting Monday.Last year, the fire marshal ordered inmates to be moved out because the jail was overcrowded.
