NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Emergency crews said a crash into a building caused a wall to collapse at a beauty supply store in east Nashville on Tuesday morning.
The collapse occurred at about 11 a.m. at the Hair World Beauty Supply located at 600 Gallatin Road. Police said a gray sport utility vehicle driven by Diomede Richard crashed into a parked vehicle, causing a brick wall to collapse.Richard said he was backing out and leaving a nearby bank. He said he thought he put the vehicle in drive but had actually put it in reverse. The SUV rammed into a customer's gray car, pushing both of the vehicles into the wall. When the collapse occurred, there were two workers and one employee inside the building who were trapped for a short period of time. They were able to get out of the building safely."We just feel shocked. I thought it was a tornado or somebody bombing or something," said Sunyi Rice of Hair World Beauty Supply."It was a frightful experience, very, very scary," said customer Madeline Allen.Allen's SUV was the one Richard crashed into, causing the wall to collapse."When I saw that my car had been damaged, I said, 'Oh, my Lord. I don't know if I'll be able to drive it,'" said Allen.Police do not think Richard was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he crashed."I feel sorry for what happened," said Richard."I thank God nobody was hurt. It's going to be OK. The main thing is that nobody was hurt," said Rice.It is unclear if Richard will face any charges.
