According to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Hickman County is one of the hardest hit areas and it could get worse. Dozens have been forced from their homes because of flooding and more rain is expected overnight.

Terry Cloud is the emergency management director for Hickman County and is trying to assess the situation. Cloud has called in crews from Nashville for extra manpower and boats.

"We evacuated about 19 people from their homes," said Cloud. "A lot of people have been trapped -- several vehicles."

Rosie Forrest is a homeowner and one of the flood victims, and she may have a lot of flood damage and clean up on her hands.

"It didn't get very deep, but it's a mess," Forrest said. "I've never seen it this bad."

According to Cloud, the flooding began on Friday night and may get worse.

"Supposed to be, you know, heavy rains again, and if that happens we're going to be about three feet under water," he said.

The high waters have already caused several disruptions at their current levels. Mail Carrier Barry Shelton was unable to finish his Saturday mail route.

"It's rough today, very rough. Everywhere I turn, I'm blocked," said Shelton. "I've been carrying the mail for 20 years, and this is the worst I've seen it so far."

Despite the conditions, Shelton and others are still trying to press on.

"I've got quite a bit of mail yet, still to get delivered," said Shelton. "But I'm trying. I'm giving it my best shot."

A groom and his friends tried to load up a boat to retrieve the groom's parents, but the water proved to be too much.
