Leaflets were found wrapped around free newspapers thrown in people's driveways Wednesday morning.

The fliers were full of racist ideology. The bottom line of the fliers said they are distributed by the Ku Klux Klan.

"I'm sure they came at night, just (threw) them out the window as they went," said Battery Lane resident Nat Vaprin.

"People shouldn't have to put up with this," Vaprin said. "This is garbage. I don't want this in my driveway. I don't want this in my neighborhood; it's awful."

The fliers have derogatory language about black people and give Web sites and phone numbers for the KKK.

Fliers wrapped around publications such as the Thrifty Nichol that were thrown in driveways on Battery Lane from Franklin Road to Granny White Pike.

"They do this and it's called something like 'newspaper nightriding,' which refers to their old nightriding terrorist tactics where they would terrorize black families," said Vaprin.

Tim Zehr, the publisher of one of the free newspapers, was horrified and said he believes his papers were hijacked, possibly out of a grocery store.

"It made me upset. They're messing with my livelihood. Yeah, I was mad, very much so," said Zehr.

California made it a law that it was illegal to insert material such as these fliers because it became such a problem.

The homeowner and the publisher both called police. The corporate headquarters of the paper will send the Klan a certified letter saying to stop doing this.
