SPARTA, Tenn. -- Police in White County said they raided a suspected mill Wednesday morning that contained around 275 to 300 dogs.
Video: Hundreds Found At Suspected Puppy MillA dozen different breeds and some mixed breeds were recovered at a home on Lost Creek Road outside Sparta. Police said four dead dogs were found, but other animals did not look terribly malnourished.As of noon, only 30 to 50 of the animals had been removed from the area. Some dogs were treated for skin conditions and stress related illnesses.Dogs could be seen in sheds, pens and in the owners' yard in overcrowded conditions.Detective Chris Isom has been with the White County Sheriff's department for 14 years and said he had "never seen anything like this."The area district attorney is determining what kinds of charges and how many will be filed. The White County Sheriff's Department is handling the care of the dogs that were recovered.Authorities have yet to release the owners' names.The dogs won't be adoptable until each one is tested and cared for. The White County Sheriff's department is welcoming monetary donations, but no dog food donations were needed.
