MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Brenda Carneal can't sleep. When she closes her eyes, she sees her granddaughter Lakeisha White's body wrapped around a mailbox.
Video: Family Of Girl Killed Wants Justice"It just made me sad. Real sad," said Carneal. "When I lay down on my pillow at night, I sometimes cries because I miss her."It's been six months since 11-year-old White was struck and killed by a car driven by Rutherford County Sheriff's Sgt. Ron Killings -- six months of frustration, from the ignored liquor bottle witnesses saw Killings throw from the car to the suspension of the Murfreesboro police officer who led the investigation."To be honest, it's been pure hell," said Kim Coleman, White's aunt. The holidays have been especially hard for the family because White was usually the life of the party."Christmas wasn't Christmas; Thanksgiving wasn't Thanksgiving like it's supposed to be," said Coleman."There was nothing to celebrate," Carneal said.Anger is growing as the family waits to see if Killings faces any charges. The only thing that can make 2009 better than 2008 is justice."I pray that justice be served for my niece," Coleman said.White's family said they are still waiting for an apology from Killings, but they said it won't help put their pain to rest. The only thing that can do that, they said, is for Killings to face charges. The case has been turned over to a special prosecutor for review. The family has not heard anything from him. There is also a civil lawsuit pending.
