Police said they have received complaints from several Franklin residents about suspicious phone calls and e-mails.

The scammer claims he or she is a representative from a bank or credit card company. They tell the person their account may have been compromised and was being used to make fraudulent Internet purchases.

They then ask for personal information, including a credit card number.

Police said credit card companies and banks already have that information.
