NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Nashville could be the first city in the south to require restaurants to post calories on their menus.
Video: Diabetes Affecting Health, Longevity Of ChildrenThe Metro Health Board took the first step toward the measure Tuesday night, agreeing to hold a public hearing next month.The plan would require restaurants with 10 or more locations to post calorie information on menus. If approved, the calorie count law would take effect at the end of January.
Obesity is at an epidemic level in Nashville, with more than 60 percent of city residents overweight.Tennessee is in the top 10 for childhood obesity and diabetes.
