NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A family is considering pressing charges against a Metro school bus driver after they said their child was kicked off the vehicle.
Video: Driver Kicks Child Off Bus; Parent UpsetJosh Brockway, 10, said the bus driver made him get off on Monday morning after he threw balls of paper and talked back."She made me get off the bus, shut the door and drove off," said Brockway.
The child said he didn't start the fight but retaliated when he was hit in the head."I stood up and threw it back. I didn't think about what I was doing," said Brockway. The bus driver got upset and told the boy to sit up front, but talking back to the driver resulted in her dropping him off on the side of the road."At first thought I thought she'd come back, then she didn't come back and I was like, 'What am I going to do?'" said Brockway. The child's brother, who was also on the bus, called their mom, and she panicked. Her son was about a mile away from home, along a busy street and even further from school.Brockway's parents were so worried about their child that they called police to try and help them locate their son. However, a family friend spotted the boy, picked him up and called the child's mother.District officials said the bus driver is a veteran who should know the rules about disciplining children."She should've been familiar with the route. She should have been familiar with the children on the route. She should've been very familiar with the policy," said Ralph Thompson of Metro Schools.Holloway knows he broke a rule too in the incident."The bus driver thought I was getting smart with her, and I shouldn't have done that,” said Holloway. The school bus driver is on leave as the district conducts an investigation.According to Metro schools, a similar situation happened a couple weeks ago with another driver when two siblings were told to get off the bus when they forgot their stop. The driver was subsequently fired.
