The company, though, said it has nothing to hide and hasn't done anything wrong.

Since 1977, the Murfreesboro Ambulance Service has been transporting patients to and from dialysis, hospitals and nursing homes.

For the last two weeks, investigators from Medicare and the FBI have been interviewing company employees about the company’s billing practices. Murfreesboro Ambulance Service is a private company. It's supported with state and federal tax dollars under the Medicare and TennCare programs.

Woody Medlock and his wife Kathy have owned the company for more 30 years. The billing office is run out of their home. They said it has been successful as a company that is run above-board. The Medlocks said they suspect a former employee who was fired filed a complaint with Medicare.

"We've been in business 33 years (and) never had one complaint about anything," Woody Medlock said.

No one at Medicare was available to say how much money the ambulance service has billed federal taxpayers. TennCare said the company billed state taxpayers $86,000 last year.
