NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Police said a man who was in the country illegally is responsible for the death of a south Nashville store clerk. His name is Edgar Rodriguez, and he's no stranger to immigration officials. He was deported last October and is now on the run. Police said they believe he is back in Mexico. But some local businesses aren't taking any chances. The Discount Beer Market is closed now and has been closed for a week. No one has even been back inside until Thursday, when victim Vinod Shah’s family went in to pick up a few things. The sign on the door said ‘Closed,’ and a friend of the family said they have no plans of reopening after last Friday’s killing. “The two suspects entered the business and committed this cold-blooded murder and fled in less than 15 seconds,” said police Commander Mike Alexander. In surveillance images, two Hispanic men are seen walking into the store. Once inside, a man with a bandana on his face is seen holding and pointing a gun.Customers went to the store Friday only to find it closed.“He’s sweet,” said Paulette Walker. “Sometimes he gives us a bag of chips for free -- that's how sweet he was.”Nearby businesses are doing business differently now. The front door of a nail salon, although open for business, was locked. The owner said she's scared and careful about who she allows in. The owner of a liquor store said he plans to install more security cameras soon.Late Friday afternoon, Metro police identified Rodriquez, 19, as the suspect from a fingerprint in the store.Police and other people we've recently interviewed said that 60-year-old Shah was known in this community for cashing checks and keeping the money in his store.Police said they believe that robbery was the motive and hope that the surveillance images will help lead them to some clues about this crime.Police are urging anyone with information about the Sept. 19 murder to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
