The shooting occurred at a Discount Beer Market store near Nolensville Road and Old Hickory Boulevard around 10:30 a.m.

Witnesses said two Hispanic men wearing bandanas walked into the market and opened fire on the clerk, 60-year-old Vinod Shah.

Police said Shah's wife was in the rear of the store and heard the commotion. She heard a shot fired and saw both shooters leaving the market.

The shooters were seen running toward the nearby Turtle Creek apartments, police said.

Those who knew Shah described him as a hard worker who cared a lot about others.

Friends said the clerk often cashed checks for the Hispanic community, which police said could have led to the shooting.

Shah was the father of two children. A friend of the slain worker said Shah had owned the store for about 10 years.
