NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A former substitute teacher has pleaded guilty to a sex crime involving a student.

Julie Petty pleaded guilty Monday to sexual battery by an authority figure. In exchange for that plea, the state dismissed a statutory rape charge against her.

A 14-year-old girl at William James Middle School in White Bluff said Petty touched her inappropriately last year.

Petty also coached softball at the school. She could face three to six years in prison when she is sentenced next month.
