William Dorris Irwin, 40, was captured after Rutherford County's Fugitive Squad tracked him to Memphis.

He is accused of kidnapping a woman in Murfreesboro on Monday morning and then possibly threatening to kidnap his son from Smyrna High School.

Irwin's wife, who has an order of protection against him, was in the parking lot of the Murfreesboro Domestic Violence Center on Monday talking to a counselor when police said Irwin jumped out of the trunk of his wife's car.

According to police, Irwin then kidnapped the domestic violence worker, who did not want to be identified, and dropped her off at a Citgo gas station in Smyrna.

Smyrna High School was only two miles from where the gas station was located.

The kidnapped staff worker said she was afraid she would either die in a car crash or he would kill her. She said the incident took her back 22 years when she was a victim of domestic violence.

"I had the fear that when he did let me out of the car that he was going to shoot me in the back when I walked out, but he shook my hand instead," said the kidnapped worker.

There were reports on Monday that Irwin told the worker that he was going to also kidnap his 16-year-old son from Smyrna High School. However, the worker told Channel 4 on Tuesday that Irwin never told her he was going to kidnap his child.

"It's been said that he threatened to take a gun and kidnap his son. The man never said that (to me)," said the worker.

Smyrna High School and eleven other area schools were locked down on Monday because of the incident.

"There was no imminent danger on (the Smyrna High School) campus this morning. There was no one that actually ever entered the campus with any sort of guns. This was completely off-campus and they (executed a lockdown) as a way of keeping the campus secure," said James Evans, spokesman for Rutherford County schools.

School was let out at its normal time on Monday.

Irwin was arrested three times in July and August on charges of assaulting his wife and armed robbery.

Irwin's son and the boy's mother are together and both are currently in a safe location.

Irwin is in the Rutherford County Jail and being held on a $750,000 bond.

He faces charges of, kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, reckless endangerment, aggravated stalking and violation of an order of protection.
