NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Metro Animal Control officers said they found on Tuesday a badly decomposed pit bull in an Antioch yard.

I'm not responsible for a stray dog back there. That wasn't my dog. I've been in Florida for about a month," said Cortez. However, Billy Biggs of Metro Animals Control said she is responsible."If it was on her property, she should be aware of it or somebody should have cared for the animal. The animal got tangled and got stuck and nobody ever went to untangle it. It could not get to food and water and died," said Biggs.Neighbors said it is not the first time they've seen dogs at Cortez's home severely neglected."I came back one day. It was lying in the gutter. It was dead," said resident Jeff Davis.Cortez said she has healthy puppies, and that's proof she takes care of her pets."These animals are like my babies, I'm their grandmother," said Cortez. But if no one comes forward to take the blame for the dead dog, officers said she will be arrested and charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty.
