Developers of a possible Bible-themed park presented their plans to people in Wilson County on Friday.

The park’s plan calls for the park to built on land near the area of Highway 231 and Interstate 40.

Park developer Armon Bar-Tur said his company, Safe Harbor Holdings LLC., is also looking at 18 other counties in Tennessee but that Wilson County was high on the list.

"Wilson County is a community of faith. We know and appreciate that. It's one of the things that draws us to you," Bar-Tur said.

Bar-Tur said there are 15 million people in the U.S. who travel for religious purposes and spend well more than $10 billion every year.

Lebanon Mayor Don Fox said he wants the park and that it would bring in more than $1 million per year in tourism to the local economy.

"Of course the dollar sign is the driver. They are going to invest $175 million. That is the capital investment of this park," Fox said.

Developers chose the site close to the interstate for its visibility.

"It is potentially a better location. It's all commercial. It's flat. It's got utilities in it or around it. It's got great road access," Fox said.

One opponent of the park said Friday that he thinks it’s wrong that someone would profit from the Bible.

"It is a moral dilemma. It's immoral and sacrilegious. It's just plain wrong to use the bible to put money in your pocket," said Stephen Wheeley.

"These people who say it’s wrong to make money of the Bible need to look and see if that sales slip is still on their Bible that says how much they paid for it," Fox said.

Since Rutherford County said no to a Bible-based theme park, there's been speculation that developers will go somewhere else in middle Tennessee or southern Kentucky.

Almost 20 other counties have expressed interest in the park. Developers said they hope to make a decision by August.
