NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Crews with the Nashville Fire Department responded to a house fire in southeast Nashville on Thursday.
The fire damaged parts of a home on Mount View Road in Antioch.Officials said there was one person inside the home at the time of the blaze and that he made it out OK. Due to recent health issues, the man was hooked up to an EKG monitor but refused transportation to a hospital for further treatment.
Flames that burned at the home were visible from nearby highways.Nashville Fire Department District Chief Buddy Byars said the man inside alerted the fire department."The homeowner, he was inside when the fire started. When he heard some popping noises, he called the fire department. The first engines that responded could see the smoke when they left the fire hall," he said.Byars said the home suffered severe damage."There’s heavy smoke damage in the roof and in the back area. It looked like maybe a garage or a shed in the back is burned. There’s heavy damage to the whole house," he said.Byars said no firefighters were hurt while fighting the flames but that they were taking precautions because of Thursday’s high temperatures."They’re fine. Nobody’s been hurt. We’re rehabbing them outside just because of the heat, the temperature. We’re giving them fluids. We’ll probably be here about another 30 minutes," he said.According to property records, the home is owned by William Knight, but it is not clear if Knight was the man who was inside the home when the fire started.
