NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A Goodlettsville barn was destroyed and a young horse was killed in a fire late Tuesday night.

Friends of the property owner were practicing in a nearby arena when a neighbor spotted the flames around 11 p.m.

"It was just absolutely incredible how fast it happened. We were literally inside the barn 45 minutes before the neighbors ran in and said it was on fire," said Jennifer Dalton, a friend of the property owner.

The barn fire was located near Baker Road.

"It's a shame for the owner. They lost one horse, and they don't have any insurance on the building or on the horse or anything. It's just a real shame," said Cpt. Larry Roberts of the Nashville Fire Department.

Firefighters said hay bales stored on the second story of the barn helped fuel the flames.
