NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- While the economy is slow and people have to pay a little closer attention to their money, it’s also a good time to refocus spending habits..
Since the beginning of July, Channel 4 has been speaking with Dave Ramsey about smart ways to spend money. Some of the best ways to save money are the still the simple things, Ramsey said, things that he and his family do every day."The only good thing about bad times is that it really makes you stop and concentrate," he said.Ramsey said it's all about being proactive."Sometimes it just involves asking for a deal. How many times are you sloppy at the register and you don't say, 'Hey, Is this going on sale this week?' 'It's going on sale tomorrow.' 'Great, well give me that deal tonight.' They'll do it. If you never ask, they'll never offer it," he said. And when it comes to the deals, Ramsey said he and his family are just like everyone else."At the Ramseys, we still coupon clip. It's almost like a hobby with us. My wife will say, 'Do we have a card for this? We'll go over here.' She's always looking for those deals," he said.Another place to save that's often overlooked is consignment shops.Ramsey said he just got $378 by selling some of his old clothes.
