Tamara Coombs, of Pleasant View, was killed around dusk when she was thrown overboard after two boats collided, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials said.

TWRA is investigating the incident. But according to witnesses, the driver of the other boat, Brentwood CPA Stephen Maggart, kept going after hitting Coombs' boat.

An investigator told Channel 4 that they didn't have contact with Maggart until nearly two hours after the incident.

Mary Beth White was a passenger on her brother, Tommy Coombs', boat when they were hit from behind.

White and Tommy Coombs survived the crash but were both injured. Tommy Coombs is currently at Vanderbilt Medical Center with broken bones and other injuries.

Tommy Coombs is a former alderman for the city of Pleasant View, while his wife was a secretary at Sycamore Middle School. The couple has a teenage son, Justin.

TWRA said everyone on board both boats was wearing a life jacket. They said they're unsure if alcohol was involved.

Investigators said there were two other people on the boat that Maggart was driving. In the time it took investigators to make contact with Maggart, he had already dropped his passengers off at a dock.

Those passengers then drove themselves to Vanderbilt Medical Center. One of those victims has a broken leg.

TWRA performed blood alcohol tests on both drivers, but the results have not been released.

Seigenthaler Public Relations on Monday released a statement on Maggart's behalf that said he is distraught by the accident and, "Mr. Maggart is a person of longstanding indisputable character in this community and has cooperated fully with the investigation."

The statement also said that Maggart left to get help for the people who had been injured, but Channel 4 News has learned that at no time did he ever call 911.

Tammy Coombs funeral is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Joelton.
