CASTALIAN SPRINGS, Tenn. -- Hiding beneath a house in Sumner County was a piece of history that was uncovered when a tornado struck in February.ImagesWhen the storms swept through Castalian Springs, part of the home was destroyed.Behind the walls was a log cabin that could be one of the oldest buildings still standing in middle Tennessee.
The cabin dates to the 1780s when it was a gathering place for early settlers who needed defense against Native American tribes."This was a very key historic structure, and we've been looking for it for a couple of years. (The tornado) took away a real treasure, but it gave us a discovery," said historian Bill Puryear. The hope is to move the cabin to another site where it can be displayed.
