NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Living paycheck to paycheck isn't easy, but for people looking to save, financial expert Dave Ramsey said they should get rid of the biggest wastes in their budgets.
If you've been following the advice, you use coupons and ask for deals at the store. But if money is still tight, you may be wasting money."Probably the biggest waste of money is smoking," Ramsey said. "From a financial standpoint, it's a very, very expensive habit, and it doubles your life insurance. And it will cause your health insurance and all your deductibles to run through the roof because you're sick more."
Pet accessories is one the fastest growing industries in America and waste, according to Ramsey."I've got a little fat Chinese pug bulldog, so I'm right with you on this. I love animals, but boy I'm telling you, we can drop some coin on these dogs," he said.Ramsey said that when people eat out, they should consider that on average, eating at home is 25 percent cheaper than at a restaurant.
