Residents who paid with plastic at Stein Mart between Dec. 4, 2006, and Jan. 11, 2007, are part of a class-action lawsuit against the clothing store chain.

Stein Mart was one of several major retailers who violated federal law by printing expiration dates and/or more than the last five digits of credit cards on receipts.

Under the agreement of the proposed settlement, the company will put $10, $20 and $30 coupons in newspapers wherever it has stores.

According to Stein Mart's Web site, the $10 coupon will apply to purchases of $50 or more, the $20 coupon will apply to purchases of $100 or more and the $30 coupon will be applied to purchases of $150 or more.

Stein Mart's Web site states that both sides expect the coupons to be available between Oct. 18 and Nov. 23, 2008.

A representative for Stein Mart said the company is not aware that anyone's identity was stolen and that the company was a month away from having all their printing procedures corrected.
