NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A new Nashville subdivision is having widespread problems with their air conditioning and heating units.
Video: Cooling Problems Plague New HomesThe homeowners association said they believe that half of the 49 houses in a Whites Creek complex have a had a problem with either repairing or replaced the air conditioning and heating unit.Aubrey Allen loves putting money into his home, but lately all of his money has gone into his air conditioning/heating unit."I've been in my house two years, four months, and I've had three air and heating systems on my house," said Allen.Residents at the Knight Road complex said expensive repairs or replacements have been occurring on air conditioning units that are less than three years old."I've just don't think I should have to worry about my unit. I think with this being a brand new house, this is something that should happen later on down the line. You do expect expenses but not right at first," said homeowner Michelle Rucker.Rucker has spent $1,100 on repairing an air conditioner, and now another $300 part is broken. The air conditioners are all Weather Kings, an air conditioner made by Rheem and installed by Superior of Nashville.Metro councilman Walter Hunt has asked Rheem to investigate and see what's happening in this new subdivision."I'm asking them to come out and replace all of these Weather King units with a more reputable unit," said Hunt.Times are tight for everyone these days and these air conditioning failures are causing big problems with family budgets."When you budget monthly for the essentials, it just throws a wrench into your system when you have to come out of your pocket to pay for something that you feel should last 10 to 20 years," said Allen.Rheem has sent letters to many of the residents that said they agree that they will come out to do an inspection.Channel 4 News was unable to reach Rheem on Friday because their corporate office is closed on July 4.
