Suspect Pleads Not Guilty To Charges

The man facing charges in connection with the death of a Nashville Girl Scout in 1975 pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to the charges.

Jerome Barrett, 61, is accused of killing 9-year-old Marcia Trimble.

During a review of Barrett's finances to see whether he can pay for attorney costs, it was revealed that he receives $29,000 a year from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

It was determined that he cannot afford attorney costs and was appointed a public defender.

The attorney who was appointed to Barrett is also serving as his paid attorney for the charges he's facing involving the 1975 death of Sarah Des Prez, a Vanderbilt University student.

The death of the Green Hills Girl Scout has been Nashville's most notorious unsolved homicide for 33 years.

Barrett was living in Memphis when he was arrested late last year in connection with Des Prez's death. He was indicted in Trimble’s death on June 6.
