NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- New details were released Tuesday involving a woman whose husband was found dead in Green Hills last week.

Kelley Cannon appeared in a Davidson County court on charges that were filed before her husband, James Cannon, was found dead at his home on June 23.

In court, Kelley Cannon said, "I'm devastated by all of this."

According to the search warrant for her apartment, Cannon told detectives she had talked with her husband on June 22, the night before his body was discovered.

She said she went to his residence on Bowling Avenue between 10 p.m. and midnight because she was concerned for her children's safety.

When she arrived, she said she found the back door slightly open and the lights on in some of the downstairs rooms. Then, she said she woke her children up and took them to her apartment.

Investigators later took clothes, a pair of black jeans and a dress, that she told them she was wearing on Sunday night. Police also took an empty carton of Virginia Slims cigarettes.

Investigators took a DNA sample from Kelley Cannon to compare against evidence found where James Cannon's body was found.

Police said the couple had a history of domestic abuse.

Kelley Cannon was arrested last Wednesday on a warrant for violating an order of protection that granted her late husband temporary custody of their three children.

She was found with the children when James Cannon was found dead. She was released on Thursday after posting a $45,000 bond.

A court date was set for Aug. 18 for all of the charges against her prior to her husband's death.

Cannon's attorney said his client is a person of interest in her husband's death, but she has not been charged with anything, and he said she is innocent.

Meanwhile, Kelley Cannon has had no contact with her kids since last week. However, she will be in juvenile court in the near future in hopes of winning back custody of the three children.

Currently the children are with James Cannon's sister.
