Police said an argument over a woman may have contributed to a shooting death at a south Nashville apartment complex.

The incident happened at the Brentwood Oaks Apartments off of Old Hickory Boulevard, which is near Antioch and Brentwood.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said Eddie Evans, 37, received a phone call from work early in the morning that said he needed to go to his place of employment.

However, when Evans went to his vehicle, Brian Hurst allegedly shot him once in the parking lot, police said.

Officers said they found a blood trail extending about 50 yards. Investigators said they believe Evans tried to run away, but the shooter followed him and shot him several more times. The body was later discovered by a woman walking her dog.

Authorities said the men may have been fighting over a woman. Police said Evans had been dating Hurst's ex-girlfriend.

"There was apparent bad blood between him and someone due to the violence involved, due to the fight in the parking lot, due to the fact that the victim was chased from the parking lot to the rear of the apartment building," Aaron said.

Hurst had to be rushed to the hospital on Monday afternoon after police said he took a large quantity of pills and alcohol.

Authorities said Hurst will be arrested on murder charges once he is released from the hospital.
