NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Hospital officials said a man died Tuesday night after shooting himself and his estranged wife earlier in the day at a Hermitage hair salon.
Police said a hairstylist in Hermitage was at work on Tuesday morning when her husband, Chris Garcia, walked into the business and shot her five times.Workers at the Tip Top salon on Lebanon Pike said a failed marriage drove Garcia to shoot his wife, Alicia, 24.Police said Chris walked into the business at about 11 a.m. with a .22-caliber gun."She was working, and he came in. I guess he was waving the gun around, and she looked at her client and looked at him and pushed her client down. She looked over at him and said, 'Please don't shoot my client,' and looked at one of the other girls and said, 'You know what to do, call 911,'" said salon co-owner Alexandria Ortega.Police said Alicia was shot five times, with one bullet striking her neck, and then Chris shot himself under the chin.Ortega was not inside the salon when the shooting occurred, but knew Chris was upset over the couple's separation."Last night she got a message from her apartment complex that he was looking for her," said Ortega.Six people, three stylists and three customers, were in the salon at the time of the shooting. No one else was hurt.Alicia has worked at Tip Top Salon for six weeks. The couple has two children, who are staying with relatives.Alicia had filed for an order of protection against her husband two weeks ago.She was supposed to talk to Wilson County authorities on Tuesday about her husband violating the order of protection.Alicia remained in critical condition on Wednesday.Tip Top Salon will be closed until Thursday. All 11 eleven employees of the salon had visited Alicia by late Monday afternoon.A vigil for the the stylist was scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tip Top Salon.
