Truck Driver Crashes, Faces DUI Charges

Wreck Spills Aluminum On Interstate

A truck driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after crashing her big rig and spilling aluminum on the interstate.

The Interstate 440 on-ramp coming onto Interstate 40 East had to be shut down for a period time while workers cleared the material from the road.

Police said the driver didn't notice the road was curving until it was too late, and she lost control of the vehicle.

The truck went through the grass, onto the ramp and hit the retainer wall, causing it to flip on its side.

When police arrived, they smelled alcohol, and the driver tested well above the limit, according to authorities.

"The state of Tennessee requires that a truck driver, No. 1 shouldn't be drinking at all when they're behind the wheel, but they're limit for alcohol is much lower than the average driver that would be operating a standard motor vehicle. In this case, the tractor trailer driver was significantly above even that level," said John Pepper of the Metro Police Department.

The truck was on its way to east Tennessee.

No one was hurt.
