LEBANON, Tenn. -- Ever since Rutherford County said no to a Bible-based theme park, there's been talk it will go somewhere else in middle Tennessee or southern Kentucky.
Video: Lebanon Among Bible Theme Park SuitorsThe focus has now switched to Wilson County, and Lebanon has begun the courting."They will pursue more than Lebanon, and we know that," said Lebanon Mayor Don Fox.Fox said the potential is there to draw 2.5 million people to the area."This would take us to a new level and make us a national and international destination. And that’s something that we don’t have here right now," he said.Safe Harbor Holdings LLC is considering six sites in Lebanon. Several plots of land are for sale in the areas of Interstate 40 and state Route 840.The proposed park would need about 200 acres.Developers said they don’t want to make the same mistakes in Wilson County as they did in neighboring Rutherford County. They are looking for undeveloped land with good access. Developers said they figure if there are no homes nearby, there won’t be much resistance to a theme park."They had already done their homework. They had virtually all of the sites that we were prepared to present to them. They had already been there before we told them and presented the sites," Fox said.Fox said that so far, there have been no complaints."In fact, not a single person interviewed randomly around the city has said anything negative about it. It’s all been positive: 'Bring it on,'" he said. The top site currently is at the Interstate 40 at Route 840 interchange. Representatives said that the city, county and property owners are all on the same page.Fox said the county would give its best shot until it runs out of bullets.Developers said they are fielding about 10 or 15 calls per week from other interested parties.
