The developer of a planned religion-themed attraction said the company is meeting with government leaders in a half-dozen jurisdictions after Rutherford County leaders turned down a needed zoning change.

The developer Armon Bar-Tur said in a statement that SafeHarbor Holding LLC had been "overwhelmed" with inquiries about sites for the Bible Park.

Lebanon Mayor Don Fox told Channel 4 News that the city contacted the developer when opposition was voiced in Rutherford County, where some residents complained about traffic congestion if the park were built there.

"We'll meet with them later this week and with some property owners," said Fox.

Fox said SafeHarbor is looking at several tracts, all within Lebanon's city limits. He would not say where the tracts are located.

The mayor said he wants it made clear that an area would be zoned to avoid any uproar with neighbors, which was the case in Murfreesboro.

City leaders said the project could rival Dollywood in the Smokies and bring as many as 400 full-time jobs and 2,000 seasonal positions.
