A teenage girl said she was raped by the accused "Wooded Rapist," Robert Jason Burdick, and that the man used to date her aunt.

Burdick was charged with aggravated rape and especially aggravated kidnapping on Thursday involving the assault of a 16-year-old Mount Juliet girl.

He was appointed a public defender after the judge questioned him about his income and assets.

Burdick knew the victim, according to Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe, and took her and her family out to dinner a few weeks after the alleged rape.

He is accused of attacking the girl in the driveway of her parent's Mount Juliet home in February.

"He bound our victim with duct tape, wrist, arms, obstructed her vision by using duct tape across her forehead and eye brows," said Ashe. "He's a despicable individual who deserves as much time as the criminal justice system can impose upon him."

The victim said she did not recognize him during the rape because he was wearing a mask, Ashe said.

The teen said it wasn't until the day Burdick was arrested in early May that she made the connection to her case.

"He even had the gall and the audacity to come to their home at a later time about three weeks after this, and take the entire family out to dinner," said Ashe.

Burdick is suspected of at least 13 attacks in three counties. He's charged with nine rapes in Nashville and will likely be charged with three more in Williamson County. This is the first time that authorities have said he knew the victim.

"The terror he has reigned on Nashville, Williamson and now our county is unimaginable. Our prayers go out to these victims, and they're courageous, and they're standing up and they're saying, 'Let's put him away,'" said Ashe.

Burdick entered a plea of not guilty, and the judge appointed a public defender to represent him.

Authorities said they believe Burdick used an assortment of items to spy on his victims before he attacked.

When police arrested him, they found five guns, ammo, scopes, a lock-pick set, flashlights and five different pairs of binoculars, including a pair of binoculars with night vision.
