Strong Winds Blamed For Outages, Crashes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Following a storm system, wind gusts and strong northwest winds caused traffic accidents and knocked out power across Tennessee.In Clarksville, strong winds were blamed for scattered outages throughout the city.In Nashville, police said a strong gust of wind caused a three-vehicle pileup and closed Interstate 65 south of Nashville for several hours.A driver of a semi-truck lost control when hit by a strong wind and tipped over, causing other accidents.
High winds caused trees and limbs to fall in the Chattanooga area, downing power lines and blocking roads on Sunday.Officials said about 2,000 customers of EPB, Chattanooga's electricity utility, were without power at about 6 p.m.The National Weather Service warned of wind gusts up to 50 mph or higher in the mountains along the Tennessee-North Carolina border.
