Video: Accused Rapist Also Volunteered With StateRobert Jason Burdick served as a bachelor in a Habitat for Humanity auction and also helped with a children’s library event.WSMV talked to a woman that Burdick is accused of trying to rape in 1998.
"With all of these big cases where people seem to lead these double lives when they're caught, there's always astonishment from their family, friend and co-workers that they could do anything like this. I expected this case would probably be the same, and that seems to be the case," said the attempted rape victim who didn't want to be identified.Burdick's alleged other life is stunning many of his fellow volunteers."He was just the kind of guy you just wanted to shake hands with or hug him and say, ‘Thank you so much,’" said volunteer Sue Vanatta.Just weeks ago, Vanatta said that Burdick worked as a server for one of her charity events."He had a kind voice, a kind face, very friendly, very outgoing, an all around nice guy," said Vanatta."I won't say he's an evil person, but he chose to do evil over and over again. Maybe there was another part of him who was involved in volunteer work, that was also capable of doing good, but I think it's completely overshadowed by the fact he chose evil so many times, and he did it willingly and deliberately," said the attempted rape victim.Channel 4 News has confirmed he dated an elected official for about three months in 2006.Also people from his past all have told WSMV that Burdick was a nice, polite, someone you would like to hang out with.Court documents reveal that Burdick may have stalked his alleged victims.A pair of night vision binoculars was recently seized from his home.
